Empowered Pathways Executive Director Timothy Lyon has been selected as a featured presenter for the 2026 New York State Public Housing Authority Directors Association (NYSPHADA) Spring Conference, taking place May 19–21 at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

Lyon was invited directly by conference organizers to lead a presentation titled:

“Mediation as a Tool for Housing Stability: Resolving Conflict in Public Housing Communities”

The session will explore how mediation and conflict resolution services can support housing stability, strengthen communication, reduce escalation, and improve relationships within public housing communities.

The NYSPHADA conference brings together housing authority leaders, housing professionals, policymakers, and community partners from across New York State to discuss emerging issues, best practices, and innovative approaches in public housing and community development. Attendees include representatives from dozens of housing authorities statewide, including agencies from Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, Yonkers, Utica, Albany, and communities throughout New York.

Lyon’s presentation will highlight the role community mediation programs can play in:

  • addressing tenant conflicts,
  • improving communication,
  • reducing housing instability,
  • supporting restorative approaches,
  • and strengthening community relationships before issues escalate into formal disputes or eviction proceedings.

“As housing communities continue facing complex social and interpersonal challenges, mediation offers an important opportunity to support communication, accountability, and stability,” said Lyon. “We are excited to share how community-based conflict resolution services can help strengthen relationships and create healthier housing environments.”

The invitation reflects Empowered Pathways’ growing visibility and leadership in restorative practices, mediation services, and community conflict resolution throughout New York State.
